The Indians of Sandwich made the trip to the home of the defending Class 1A State Champions homecourt in Newark, IL. Sandwich was coming off of a 7th place finish at their 16-team tournament hosted at Joliet Central over the weekend while the Lady Norsemen were celebrating their first-place hardware at the Manteno Tournament. When the ball was tossed out from the down judge to Cassidy Adams to serve, the girls from Newark were ready to take care of business. After a few back and forth points in the first set, it was all Newark, as they won in two straight sets, 25-16, 25-15.
Madi Malone had another stellar evening at the net, crushing 12 kills, blocking two attacks, digging up 4 balls, and serving a perfect 7 for 7 from behind the line. Megan Williams had a great game with 7 kills, 2 digs, and serving 1 ace on her 7 for 7 night. Taylor Christian finger-pushed 23 assists, while helping defensively with a career-high 12 digs. Christian was also perfect from the service line, putting in all 9 of her attempts, while slipping one of them by for an ace. Meggie Scott, who was recognized before the match for her record-setting digs, added 11 more to the leader board while adding an assist to her stat line. Mattie Chapman pounded down 4 kills, blocked 2 attacks, served up 7 for 7 with 2 aces, and had an assist and dig.
The Lady Norsemen will have a tough battle tomorrow night against a tough 2A Rosary volleyball club. The Royals are always a good matchup and we look forward to broadcasting the match when Newark travels to Aurora.
