The Lady Norsemen welcomed the Plano Reapers to their cozy gymnasium with the entire Newark side packed with fans wearing their Newark blue. On this rainy Friday night, the home team completely dominated both sets as they swept the visitors 25-4, 25-16.
The first set only saw a few servers come to the line for Newark as Taylor Christian started the night with six straight serves, which included two kills from KJ Friestad and one from the outside hitter, Megan Williams. After a quick side out, Cassidy Adams served a couple, including an ace. With the score 7-2, Naomi Sweeney pounded down a kill from the right side. That led to Friestad running to the service line. After a handful of serves and a couple of monster kills by Madi Malone, Plano was finally able to side out the Norsemen. Newark quickly got the ball back, which gave Sweeney the ball to serve. With the score 12-3, Sweeney would serve the next 11. She was helped along with a couple of big blocks and kills by Mattie Chapman, several more kills from Malone, and a couple of aces of her own. Newark finished set one in just under 14 minutes. The second set saw the Reapers battling back, but the Norsemen continued their onslaught of kills and aces. Additionally, the Lady Norsemen only allowed a handful of kills against them as the Newark defense was all over the back row led by Meggie Scott (7 digs). Sweeney had six digs, Malone four, and Williams and Adams each added a pair. Malone led the offensive attack with 10 kills, while Chapman nailed down four. Williams and Friestad each had three in the match. Malone added two aces and a block while Friestad and Kenna Borton also recorded blocks for the victory.
